That's a bit of advice I should have heeded today. And others should have too. Today's venue included a start that was only about four bikes wide. With almost 70 people at the start line, that made for an interesting start. I was lucky enough to start in about the fifth row. After pre-riding the course, I knew I wanted to start on the right side of the grid. That would prove fortuitous.

I recently picked up a new hobby, called cyclocross. It's bike racing. Across pavement, grass, gravel, mud, sand, snow, logs, stairs, barriers, and whatever else might be on the course. Based on my penchant for riding my road bike off-road, friends told me I needed to get a 'cross bike. I thought it sounded like fun, and it gave me an excuse to build a bike, which I'd been wanting to do for a while.

It's been interesting learning how to race again.
